How it Works—Blended Learning

What's It All About?

At Nexus Academy of Royal Oak, our blended learning models combine the best parts of online and in-person education. Our students attend some courses in person with other students and take others online. Small on-site classes let teachers provide targeted, personal attention and support, while virtual classes give students variety and help them learn the material at a pace that's best for them. It all comes together in an open space that promotes positive interaction with peers while bringing out the best in every student every day.

Blending Learning vs. Traditional School

The first thing most Nexus Academy of Royal Oak students will tell you is how different their blended learning school is from a traditional high school. No sitting in rows listening to teachers lecture, no bells sending you from class to class whether you’re ready or not, no hall passes, and no cliques or bullies.

Instead, Nexus Academy of Royal Oak’s supportive and productive blended learning environment ensures that each student can maximize his or her potential. Smaller in-person classes and dedicated teachers provide more personal attention; four-hour on-campus sessions mean students can make the most of time at school as well as the rest of their day; and virtual classes offer a wide variety of courses without class-size restrictions.

By providing personalized learning, focus and flexibility to the high school experience, we help make learning fun and learning goals attainable.

Blended Learning vs. Online School

While virtual classrooms can offer a huge selection of course levels and subjects, some students want or need the added socialization and in-person teacher attention that a brick-and-mortar high school can provide.

There are many differences between blended learning and online schools. At Nexus Academy of Royal Oak, students get the benefits of online school: a wide variety of courses, the flexibility of studying anywhere and anytime, and the ability to work at a pace that’s best for their learning. But they also get an exclusive on-site learning community that lets them collaborate with other students while working closely in person with their teachers, counselors, and Success Coaches.

Our secure, supportive campus environment adds another level of engagement to online learning, helping students thrive and succeed.
